Rock On, Ted
It turns out our very own Erich Schlegel, who attended the ball on assignment Tuesday night, had an image or three of Uncle Ted and his Rebel Flag shirt.
Because we're just that curious, we went hunting for video of the Nugent performance. Didn't find it, but we did find video of Gov. Perry singing and dancing (you need to have a Yahoo account) to "Sweet Home Alabama" with Clay Walker.
We're no Simon Cowell, but we vote against a golden ticket to Hollywood for the foot-stompin' guv.

I am so tired of folks saying the conferate flag represents hatred and slavery. It is simply the flag of the South as the Stars and Stripes was the flag of the North.
Slavery was not even the issue at the onset of the Civil War. It was only an issue thrown in mid-war by Lincoln to add insult to injury. Both side used slaves. The South used them for labor as the North used them domestically. I promise you this; the Rebel Flag was well in-flight before slavery was tossed in the mix. Therefor, both flags represent slavery or niether do. Your decission.
When are you people going to stop letting certain cultures cry racism just to cause an effect. It's embarrassing.

I totally agree! the Confederate Flag had very little to do with slavery. If you want everyone to remember "your" 200 years of history, then give the Confederacy it's history. Otherwise, shut up!

But you have no problem having an Elton John or George Michael? Gee, that's kinda sexist and racist, isn't it?

The Nugent fiasco couldn't have embarrassed a more deserving politician. Rick Perry was the first participant in the gubernatorial debate to accuse Kinky Friedman of racsist behavior. What goes around, comes around.
Might want to rethink those V.P. ambitions, Gov. Most folks around the country are none to anxious to deal with another idiot Texan who can't grasp the basics of responsible behavior. Adios...

God Bless Ted Nugent and all that he stands for! That would be America with a capital "A".

It's just a flag that's part of our nations history. Get over it. And as far as the remarks about non-english speaking people (what's the matter? Scared to say Mexican? Because we're not talking about Germans here!), isn't it a shame that our government has let it come to that. I mean offensive remarks may not be necessary, but if you're going to live here, learn our language, and on your own time too. If we're going to let them stay here illegally, then we need to quit enabling them. NO MORE "PRESS TWO FOR SPANISH". That's ridiculous.

When are YOU people going to stop your bitterness over losing the Civil War? If it was not for President Lincoln, YOU people would still be arguing the "merits" of slavery. BTW, the rebel flag may not offend people like you, but to some Americans, both white and black, it is associated with slavery. Ted Nugent is a has been, who spares everybody to death. What else is he going to do at this point in his diminishing career?

You're right, Danny. As a qualified "Son of the Confederancy" (which I don't think Mr. Nugent is), it is embarrassing that someone could be so ill informed about the causes of the American Civil War, and conditions leading up to it, to make that post.
A lot of good Germans (some relatives of mine) fought for what they thought was right under a Swastika-emblazoned flag in WWII, so you'd have no problem with Mr. Nugent wearing a vest made of one of those, would you?

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then...

PS- I just love that the microphone's shadow makes it look like Ted ain't got no front teef. Well... at least I *think* it's a shadow.

I could've sworn I posted a response to Bruce, but don't see it... so here goes again: this country does NOT have an official national language. DOES NOT. And guess what -- the Mexican flag is *also* "just a flag that's part of our nation's history". The implicit and repeated stabs at Mexicans are what infuriate me. It's not just brown people who are in this country illegally. Let's not forget that.

Noonie, you're living in a fantasy land. "Official" language or not, dont be ridiculous. I'm not taking a stab at Mexicans. I know its not their fault (or maybe it is. The should probably do something about their country) they come here for a chance at a better life. But they know if they're here illegally and our government is allowing it to happen. Against the law should be against the law. We're letting our government break the law as far as I'm concerned. And I never said that Mexicans are the only illegals in this country. It's just that there's a bunch of them here and they're costing us a lot of money. If they want to stay, go through the proper channels. And the flag comment, that's not the same thing and hopefully you know that.
