Only In Texas

The House is slated to pass an incredibly pressing, incredibly serious resolution on Thursday: designating "the cowboy boot as the official State Boot of Texas."
A couple of thoughts here:
1) As if this is necessary!! There's nothing more Texan than cowboy boots. With all the resolutions on the book about state trees and state birds and -- upcoming -- state ties, this one isn't there already?
2) If they're going to pass the resolution, why don't they make the cowboy boot the "official state SHOE of Texas??" I mean, what other kinds of boots are in the running? Duck boots? Ski boots? Knee-high boots? Boots made for walking? I can't even think of a close second.
3) I wonder if this is the first time the movie Top Gun has been referenced in a House resolution. Check it out.

I own the official state boot of Texas. See previous post.

For the record, though, I think the official state boot of Texas should be the Ugg Boot.

You would be amazed what our legislators consider important. I remember one session where we designated the buckyball the official state molecule and the cast-iron Dutch oven as the official state cooking implement.
Then there was the year of the Lockhart vs. Llano floor fight over which got to be the barbecue capital of Texas. (I think Lockhart won.)

Obviously they haven’t had a chance to add the state boot yet. We have a state dinosaur? Oh boy…
