Gun-smoke: Unintended Consequences

Rep. Leo Berman just killed his own bill making it a Class B misdemeanor to throw a lit cigarette out a car window. Or cigar, or whatever. The firefighters had asked him to carry it to offset all the fire damage that lit cigs cause to homes, fields, farms and animals - particularly during a drought.

Why, you ask? Well, I haven't flagged him down yet, but here's a wild guess.

Earlier today, when Berman first laid out the bill, Rep. Mark Homer got up to the mic and pointed out to him that a class B misdemeanor leads to the state revoking your concealed-carry license.

WHAT?!@#$%^&?!

The collective gasp in the lobby nearly sucked all the air out of the Capitol - because today, the NRA and gun types are in the building monitoring the progress of the CHL-privacy bill that just went through the House like a speeding bullet.

Imaging. Tossing a cigarette out the window of your pickup truck on the freeway could cost you your concealed-carry license. Talk about your unintended consequences.

Berman postponed his bill after Mr. Homer requested it, and then killed it altogether.

Karen,

I apologize if my commenting stops your ax grinding, since you are running surely on your gaseous opinions. With little or no knowledge of fact, of how easy it is to obtain what most would consider PRIVATE information from state agencies. Information that would provide a criminal (you know what those are don't you Karen) the ability to know you carried a weapon, thereby allowing him to avoid you and attack your neighbor.

Safe in knowledge your neighbor doesn't carry a weapon, so that makes a victim that easier to be accosted. but you freedom loving types are still whining about how you want to know everything, OK except for all your dirty little secrets...bet you wouldn't want that out..just information about EVERYBODY esle. Karen can't have cake and eat it too.

Be careful of John, I think he has a permit. :-)

Hey. Hot head. Take a pill, please. You’re scaring the children.

What side are you on?? I honestly cannot tell. This may be one of the strangest, most incomprehensible and most incoherent comments I’ve ever seen.

If you’re going to waste my time hurling silly insults (“running surely on your gaseous opinions”?? What?), do me a favor and tell me what on earth you’re talking about.

And for the record, I’d LOVE to know what “gaseous opinions” you’re gleaning from this wise, witty, clever and EXTREMELY INSIGHTFUL – not to mention very brief - posts I’ve written today.

No really. Tell me. Thrill me. I could use a laugh today.

/Shades: Ya think?! :)

Yup- somebody got up on the wrong side of the gun show this mornin'!

Everyone rags about concealed carry and cigarette butt thrown out the car, but who cares about unqualified x-ray workers doing x-rays on infants, children and adults? They expose them to unnecessary x-radiation and the newborns and young have a longer life cycle for the damage to their growing cells to eventually produce cancer. We need to be supporting the Texas legislation stuck in the current House Public Health Committee which would better regulate who does x-rays.
