One of our DMN brothers, editorial writer Bill McKenzie, has an interesting take on the Patrick-Whitmire showdown.

McKenzie's scoring of Patrick vs. Whitmire reflects a conventional way of thinking. But Patrick's strategy is not oriented around winning floor votes this session. He wants to raise issues, get his viewpoint out to the voters outside his district, and get them to either apply pressure to his colleagues or to replace them altogether. How does he accomplish that? By engineering publicity stunts like yesterday. Bob Garrett and Bill McKenzie just communicated Dan Patrick's message to a million or so Dallas Morning News readers. By Patrick's standard, he wins.
