House has a tax-vote swap

A few weeks ago, the House revolted against Approps Chair Warren Chisum and took the teeth out of his bill that would have raised the cost of a marriage license from $30 to $100.

(I won't get into the real cost....)

Couples could take premarital counseling to get out of the fine, but the House hated the idea of raising a fee (tax), so, lead by Republicans, they voted strongly to move the cost back down to $30 before booting it over to the Senate.

The Senate raised the fee (tax) to $60 (Chisum's original plan before the $100) and sent it back, delighting the author, who asked the House to concur.

I thought there was no way, since they harumphed so much over the fee (tax) increase the first time.

But that would require some consistency, of the type I'm not exactly used to seeing around here. (Unless you count them being consistently nutty.)

They concured with more than 80 votes, and sent that fee (tax) increase to the guv.
