Poker rooms back in play in the House

So maybe those World Poker Tour hotties made an impact after all.

The House Licensing and Admin Committee today kicked out a bill that would legalize poker rooms across Texas - after a raucous hearing in which WPT players came and testified - you can always count on Kino's committee for some good times.

Anyway, I have to say that one of my favorite witnesses was a Houston police officer who told the committee that plenty of cops play poker, too. Apparently some DAs would like this to pass so they can stop having to deal with harmless vets playing cards.

The anti-gambling types don't want to bring anything to Texas that you can do in Las Vegas, just on general principle. Well, except for charity bingo.

(Although, the closest thing I ever saw to charity in Vegas was when the stickman at the craps table would place my bets for me while I was distracted by the cocktail tray.)

Anyway. The bill now goes to Calendars, where I've heard its got a good shot at getting set.
