The House parliamentarian has apparently had enough. This from Speaker Craddick's office:
(AUSTIN) - Alexis DeLee, press secretary for Speaker Tom Craddick, released the following statement on the resignation of Parliamentarian Denise Davis:"In the last few weeks, the Speaker has received a number of informal inquiries on intricate and complicated constitutional issues. Consequently, he has canvassed a wide range of legal opinions, and in some cases has put a higher premium on that counsel. As a result, Denise has resigned and has asked to be transferred. The Speaker will be complying with her wishes."

Riveting real-time news. Excellent job, everyone. We're all trying to dredge up memories of Roberts Rules. We're having trouble finding "vacate the chair" being a privileged motion.

Amazing. Can't just accept her resignation, has to act as though she's been unreliable, untrusted and wrong far too many times. What a ridiculous statement from Miss DeLee.

Looking in the wrong place. The motion to vacate is a congressional precedent

BurkaBlog from a week ago discussed just this scenario and predicted it would play out this week. Burka's conclusion was that the House Rules are not clear on the matter. An anonymous poster put it more bluntly, "Governing in Texas is about raw power -- not the rule of law, inside or outside chambers."
